I’ve got the best Ubud Bali Itinerary for one, two, three and four days, as well as the top things to do in Ubud in my ultimate travel guide.

Whether you seek relaxation at a world-class yoga retreat, inspiration from local artists, or adventure in the surrounding jungles, Ubud promises an unforgettable visit and should be a part of any Bali holiday. However, most visitors only spend a short time there, so it is important to have an Ubud Bali itinerary in mind before you travel, to make sure you see most of the highlights.

Kaitlin, AKA @holidayhun_ on Instagram spent a month in Bali last year and explored the whole island, so I asked her to design the perfect Ubud Bali itinerary to help you make the most of your visit. She has listed the top things to do in Ubud, restaurant recommendations, where to stay, and itineraries for 1, 2, 3 and 4 days in this ultimate Ubud travel guide.

About Ubud

Ubud is the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali and boasts stunning rice terraces, ancient temples, and a vibrant art scene. Located in Bali’s central highland region, Ubud offers a peaceful escape from the busy beach resorts, inviting you to immerse yourself in its cultural traditions and natural beauty.

Top Things to Do in Ubud

There is so much to do in Ubud and the surrounding areas, so you will need to plan your visit, and ideally book a private driver (they are so reasonably priced), so you don’t miss out on the hot spots.

I spent three nights in Ubud, but wish I stayed longer. I have listed 17 things to do in Ubud below, but if truth be told, there are so many more!

1. Relax at Cretya Day Club

a visit to the Cretya Day Club should be on every Ubud Bali itinerary

You may recognise this place from Instagram. Cretya Ubud, also known as Alas Harum, is a luxury restaurant and day club which offers amazing views over the rice fields, as well as plenty of pools to enjoy, so you can spend the whole day there.

Entry is as little as €5, or if you have breakfast or lunch, entry is free of charge. You can also try the famous Bali swings here that are surrounded by the most stunning scenery.

2. Go Chasing Waterfalls

waterfalls in Ubud

You can’t visit Ubud and not visit the amazing waterfalls in the surrounding areas. The best way to see the waterfalls is to rent a local driver and go exploring.

Top Tip: You don’t need to venture far, choose waterfalls nearby, as you don’t want to spend the whole day driving around – the traffic in Ubud can be a bit chaotic.

The top waterfalls to visit in Ubud are Tegenungan. Layana, Nungnung, Tribumana and Suwat Waterfalls.

3. Visit the Traditional Temples

Ubud temple, Bali

There are thousands of temples in Bali, but Ubud is definitely home to some of the best! When you arrive in Ubud you will notice the sheer volume of temples, even on the main street.

I recommend booking a private tour to see as many as possible, but in particular, Tirta Empul, for a traditional spiritual experience, – it claims to wash away any evil.

4. Attend a Jewellery Making Class

Make the perfect souvenir to bring home at a jewellery class in Ubud. Overlooking the rice terraces it is a peaceful and wholesome activity to do with others.

Balinese jewellery is known for its unique and intricate designs and taking a class here strongly supports and values the local artists. Check out Ubud Art Lessons for any classes you desire.

5. See the Sunrise at Mt Batur

Sunrise Mt Batur

Mount Batur is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ubud and provides tourists with a memorable morning of natural beauty, cultural insights, and outdoor adventure – it is a must visit in Ubud.

As well as stunning sunrise views, it is also a rewarding experience knowing you are hiking an active volcano. If you are fit enough take the hike, but if not, do not worry, you can book a jeep to take you up which is what I did when I visited.

Ubud is the perfect place to immerse yourself into the spiritual and peaceful side of Bali. You will find unlimited classes, workshops and experiences around the Ubud area.

Bali can be busy and you will need time to wind down – a yoga or breathwork class is the ideal way to do it. I can highly recommend The Yoga Barn for classes or retreats.

How Many Days in Ubud?

The more time you have to explore Ubud the better. Ubud is a destination full of activities, so if you want to enjoy some pool time as well as visiting most of the top attractions, you will need to make allowances for this. Three days in Ubud is the minimum amount of time if you want to see most of the highlights, or four / five days if you want some time to relax in between activities.

1 Day Ubud itinerary

Ubud, Bali

If you have just one day in Ubud, it’s essential to plan wisely to make the most of your time. Begin your day early, especially if you’re arriving from another part of the island, to maximize your time.

One of my top tips for visiting Ubud is to book a local driver to take you around the area, especially if you only have one day. This will save you lots of time and money and you’ll get a truly local experience. Prepare a priority list of places you wish to see and communicate this to your driver to optimise your itinerary.

For a delightful breakfast, consider Cretya. Soak in the serene beauty of the rice fields and enjoy a refreshing swim in the many pools at the venue.

After Creyta take a visit to the surrounding temples and waterfalls. I recommend the below stops if you have limited time.

  1. Pura Titra Empul Temple – A serene temple known for its holy spring water.
  2. Tibumana Waterfall – End your tour with a visit to this picturesque waterfall.
  3. Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary – this offers a fascinating encounter with local wildlife.

While a single day is brief for exploring Ubud’s many attractions, careful planning and the guidance of a knowledgeable local driver can help you make the most of your visit.

Where to Stay in Ubud

Ubud hotels

Ubud has some amazing hotels as well as some small guesthouses. I stayed at the Honeymoon Guesthouse which is great value, centrally located just off the main street, and has lovely staff.

TOP TIP – Book a place with a pool. Ubud is inland and it can get really hot without the sea breeze.
