From yoga holidays to sleep retreats, spa resorts to family farms, I’ve got the best wellness holidays for 2026!
Travel and wellness are so closely connected. Getting on a plane or setting off on a road trip automatically releases endorphins and gives us a sense of well being, so it makes sense that wellness holidays are one of the fastest growing travel trends.
The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the ‘active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health’. The overall sense of wellness is feeling better physically and mentally, but wellness holidays are subjective.
For some, relaxing for hours in a spa is their idea of heaven, and a sunrise yoga class in an exotic destination is the perfect holiday activity. Personally, an hour in a spa is enough for me. Trying a new experience, exploring a new destination, or watching a beautiful sunset are some of my perfect holiday activities.
It is impossible to categorise wellness holidays as one particular holiday style. This became even clearer when I asked my Instagram followers for their favourite wellness holiday recommendations. I was blown away by the response!
I expected to receive recommendations for world-class wellness retreats, as well as fitness and walking holidays – which I did. But I also received recommendations about Whispering Cow Walks in Scotland, tree-hugging in Mauritius, menopause retreats in Italy, and amazing family wellness holidays – see more on these below. Would you believe sexual wellness is a new trend too, Visit Norway has a blog on its website showing the 6 places to have great sex in Norway!
I have never been more convinced that there are wellness holidays to suit everyone. With that in mind I have picked 22 diverse trips for you below, I hope they will inspire you to take a wellness break away in 2026.
If you are looking for wellness breaks in Ireland, then don’t miss this post:
Walking the Camino is one Europe’s most popular walking trails. Not only will it give you a sense of well being, but as an authentic pilgrim trail, it traditionally helps people who are need of reflection or healing. The Camino is popular with solo travellers too, and is a great way to meet like-minded travellers.
There are many ways to book walking holidays along the Camino. TDactive Holidays organise small group walking tours to the Camino and many more destinations, and you can use my promo code for TTE50 to save €50pp off your trip.
Uwalk,Camino Ways and Magic Hill Holidays organise Camino tours from Ireland too, but I love this guided Camino Zen trip from Follow The Camino, where you walk and take part in Yoga classes along the Camino Portuguese Coastal Route, for the ultimate wellness holiday.
When locals built terraces on top of small fishing villages in Liguria in the 11th century, little did they know that it would become a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous coastal trails in the world. I was fortunate to visit three of the five villages, and hiking between them is the best way to explore the whole area.
The 11 km Blue Trail connects Riomaggiore to Monterosso al Mare and is a combination of easy paved paths and steep climbs. It may not be long, but the idea is to hike between the villages and spend time in each one for the optimum wellness journey.
Fitness camps are becoming more and more popular, with most offering a more relaxed atmosphere to the traditional boot-camps of old. Marbella Fitness Camp is one of these that offers a variety of camps to suit all ages and fitness levels.
Nadia El Ferdaoussi also runs a private camp here called The Good Life, that includes optional activities and a rest day to enjoy the surrounding area. This is ideal for solo travellers or friends looking to enjoy fitness holidays at their own pace.
When I think of the type of wellness holidays that I would like – this is right up there. Croatia has a stunning coastline and what better way to appreciate it than on a bicycle.
I came across this seven-night trip along the Dalmatian Coast where you can visit the beautiful islands of Hvar and Korcula by bike and ferry too. You can choose to upgrade to an e-bike for a more relaxed experience.
You only have to mention the word Costa Rica to me and I immediately feel the dopamine effect! This island has been on my own bucket list for many years and must be one of the world’s best wellness destinations.
G Adventures has a super eight-day wellness tour with upgraded accommodation, meals and activities included, as well as a yoga session overlooking Arenal Volcano, a theraputic mud bath, and bathing in thermal hot springs.
If you prefer to go it alone, then don’t miss the Hotel Nantipa. Located in one of the five Blue Zones in the world, the local community here promotes daily practices linked to longevity and health.
There are numerous wellness packages available, but a three-night Blue Wellness Experience including accommodation, yoga and meditation each morning, a private surf lesson, a hike to the Montezuma waterfall, volunteering at non-profit coastal ranch CIRENAS, a local family visit, daily sunset cocktails, a private sunset dinner on the beach, and daily spa treatments would start from $3,485 for two.

Yoga, pilates and meditation gave Ubud its global status as one of the world’s best wellness locations, so if you are looking for the ultimate holiday retreat, Ubud in Bali is the place to go. However, you will find wellness experiences all over the island. Hike Mt Batur to catch the sunrise, chase the countless waterfalls and combine these wonderful activities with some relaxing time on one of Bali’s beautiful beaches.
Morocco has its fair share of wellness hotels, including the world-class Amanjena Hotel in Marrakesh, and with direct flights to Marrakesh and Agadir from Dublin, Morocco has never been so accessible.

10. Combine Skiing and Spa Treatments with the Canyonlands in Utah
A holiday in Utah epitomises wellness travel for me. You can ski in the largest ski resort in the US – Park City, explore the incredible Canyonlands and National parks, and stay in some of the best wellness hotels in America.
The Lodge at Blue Sky has been on my own wish list for some time – I hope to stay and ski here some day. It is a luxury boutique hotel with just 41 rooms on a ranch with 3,000 acres of land. As well as amazing skiing, there is a world-class Spa, Yoga classes and meditation with horses.

14. Live La Dolce Vita in Italy
Exploring the stunning cities of Florence or Sienna is enough to give me a sense of well being, but throw in Tuscany’s Spa towns and thermal baths and you have one of the best wellness destinations in the world.
There are countless wellness hotels to choose from, including one of the Small Leading Hotels of The World – Fonteverde Lifestyle & Thermal Retreat. As well as its top-class thermal spa, holistic centre, and therapies such as Cryotherapy it boasts stunning views of Tuscany’s rolling hills.
However, it is easy to visit Tuscany’s thermal baths and towns by staying in less expensive options. Top Tip: Don’t miss Saturnia’s Hot Springs which are free to visit!

Pardon the pun, but Austria does wellness so well. Whether you want an activity based holiday, a relaxing one, or a combination of both, Austria has destinations for all in abundance.
I have a passion for skiing. It is one of the few times when I can completely switch off – so I guess this is the perfect wellness holiday for me. However, I also enjoy gazing at the snowy mountains from an outdoor hot tub at the end of the day! There is something about crisp cold air and the child-like wonder that comes from seeing mountains and villages covered in snow.
Austria is a super wellness holiday destination in the summer too. Ski resorts become a paradise for walkers, hikers and mountain bikers, and if don’t want to hike but still get the mountain views, the selection of lifts will allow you to reach mountain peaks easily.
One of the most recommended wellness retreats in Austria is Forsthofgut – this is ideal for families as well as adults. The multi-award winning forest Spa has an adult-only area with a natural chemical-free swimming lake, as well as a family spa with a water slide and baby pool. Horse riding, Yoga, cycling and hiking are all available here, as is skiing during the winter months.
Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort is another great hotel for family wellness holidays. As well as ski in – ski out facilities there is an indoor water park with 5 slides as well as a kids club.

Lanserhof in Tirol’s has a team of medical doctors on site and offers 7, 10 and 14 day CURE packages with holistic approach and state-of-the-art medicine. Whether you want detox and regeneration, sleep medicine or a long-covid therapies, you name it, its here, but my understanding is that this is more like a clinic than a wellness retreat.
There are many more wellness resorts in Austria to choose from, or you can simply relax in the thermal baths in one of the Great Spa Towns of Europe, Baden bei Wien – a town that was given UNESCO World Heritage status because of its medicinal springs.
After visiting three islands in the Maldives I’m fairly sure that no matter where you stay, a holiday here will provide a feeling of well being! Being able to walk barefoot around your resort, and sleep in an overwater bungalow on some of the world’s most idyllic islands is a dream come true for most of us.
While most islands will have Spas and wellness facilities, some islands go a step further.
