Malaga Short Break for Christmas Lights – 2nd December, 2 Nights from €169pp
Kick start the festive season with a Malaga city break. See the Christmas lights, shop the Christmas markets, and explore its historical centre and great food scene.
After many years of turning right when I arrived in Malaga airport, I finally got around to a Malaga city break. Malaga airport is frequented by millions of international visitors each year, but most use it as a gateway to stay in beach resorts on the Costa del Sol. I was one of those people, and can’t believe what I have been missing for the last 30 years!
Despite being the six largest city in Spain, Malaga feels more like a vibrant town. Its colourful streets are a delight to explore and it is packed with history and culture, as well as tasty tapas bars. It is even more impressive at Christmas time, as the city is covered in two million lights!
The Christmas lights in Malaga are renowned as being one of the best in Spain. Visitors flock to Malaga city every December to take part in the festivities and to enjoy its illuminated streets.
In addition to the lights, there are five Christmas trees, Christmas markets, colourful arches and light shows to complete the festive experience.
Many of the top things to do in Malaga are located close together so you can see most of the highlights in a Malaga city break. My Malaga travel guide has all you need to know about discovering this great city:

Price for flights from Dublin on the 30th of November or 1st of December and a two night stay at the 4 Star Eurostars Hotel is only €199. The best deal I found from Cork is departing Tuesday the 9th of December – price for flights and hotel is only €169 per person. Flights depart early morning and return late in the evening, giving you three days to enjoy this city.
There are also weekly flights from Shannon and Knock Ireland West airport. I have lots more hotel recommendations and top tips in my Malaga travel guide:
