Search ALL hotels10 Top Tips for Leaving Cert Holidays:

1. Book with a trusted travel agent
If something goes wrong you will have someone to call and it will keep your Mammy happy! You can pay off in installments and it is easier to book a group with a travel agent, than online. SCENE holidays usually offer the best value as transfers, checked baggage and the benefit 24/7 support on the TUI app is included in the cost of your trip. Plus, a rep will visit each hotel during your stay.
If you ignore this advice and are booking accommodation independently, make sure you check reviews online before you book – and make sure there are many reviews, not just one or two top rated ones. Most good villas or large properties will not allow party groups, so if something looks to good to be true, is usually is.
Keep in mind that in destinations like Greece, it’s common for there to be extra charges for amenities such as air conditioning or a fridge, so be sure to check before you travel.
2. Make sure you have travel insurance
Multitrip.com offer a yearly policy from only €19.95 – don’t risk going without it. And pick up an EHIC – European Health Insurance Card too, its Free and you can use this in European public hospitals abroad. Always double check the booking conditions to make sure you have the correct coverage in place.
3. Don’t forget your sunscreen
Late nights mean you will inevitably fall asleep on the beach. Make sure you put your sunscreen on before you leave the hotel. And don’t drink and swim…
4. Drink lots of water and eat regularly!
You may drink to much alcohol, but drinking lots of water and eating regularly will help you to be the last one standing at the end of the night!
5. Text home
I suggest texting your parents at home when you arrive back to your hotel each morning, to let them know you are home safe and sound – it will take two seconds, and you wont have to make as many calls home!
6. Remember the age we live in
Everyone has a phone with a camera, don’t do anything you don’t want to see on social media the next day! Watch out for scams, drinks being spiked and remember the local laws.
7. Watch out for fines in Majorca and Albufeira
Resorts such as Magaluf and Albufeira have brought in anti-social behaviour rules. Fines of €300 – €1500 could be given if you wear swimwear outside of beach or bathing areas, and fines of €500 to €1,800 are in place for nudity or public sex acts in Albufeira.
8. Know your address and phone numbers
On the off chance that your phone gets lost, or your battery dies, make sure you know your hotel address and your parents / friends phone numbers.
9. Copy all documents before you travel
Take a photo of your passport and travel insurance before you travel and upload it to the cloud, just in case you loose it!
10. Share location services with your friends
Don’t go anywhere alone, let people know where you are at all times, keep your location services turned on on Snapchat, or download Life360 to keep an eye on eachother.
FAQ:
Below are some frequently asked questions for anyone researching leaving cert party holidays.

What is a 6th Year holiday?
A 6th year holiday is summer getaway, usually taken in Europe in a lively party destination with school friends to celebrate the end of school years and exams.
Why do Irish students go on leaving cert holidays ?
Many young people including Irish students, go on a big trip the summer after exams to celebrate finishing school. In the UK, for example, after completing GCSE and A levels, students often book a party holiday in Europe to mark the occasion.
Leaving cert holidays are also a chance to bond with friends and to make memories together after a period of hard work and study. Travel also allows students to explore new places, experience different cultures, and broaden their horizons before going to further their education or start their first job.
Where do Irish students go on holidays?
The leaving cert holidays I have listed above have been the most popular destinations in recent times. However, each year there tends to be a different ‘hot spot’. Zante, Albufeira and Ios were some of the most popular destinations last year, but with the introduction of a new direct flight from Dublin to Larnaca, I predict Ayia Napa to be one the hottest leaving cert holiday destinations in 2025.
Are leaving cert holidays safe?
No one can ever guarantee safety, no matter what the destination is, but common sense should prevail when you are abroad as it does at home. Don’t wander off alone, keep your phone charged at all times, watch out for scams and be careful not to drink too much alcohol. See more on my leaving cert holiday tips above.
I hope this post on Leaving Cert holidays will help you plan an amazing trip abroad with your friends.
Enjoy!
