With the wide variety of flights to European cities, and hotel prices offering special deals for winter and spring breaks, there has never been a better time to explore somewhere new. I’ve found 20 great city break deals staying in highly-rated hotels in central locations.

Rome is always a great choice for a city break. There are ancient wonders at every corner, Rome feels like one magnificent open-air museum. And let’s not forget the food – the home of pizza, pasta and gelato, Rome is a feast for the senses.

I found return flights from Dublin for €77pp departing 10th January for 2 nights and a stay at the 4-star Hotel Best Western Art Deco is only €110 per person – so you can enjoy a weekend in Rome for just €187 per person!

2. Prague: 5-star Hotel, February, 2 Nights, €156pp, 3 Nights €186

Often compared to Paris in terms of beauty, Prague has architectural masterpieces untouched by war or natural disasters. The medieval Charles Bridge connects the old town to the impressive Prague Castle and is filled with artists selling paintings and caricatures.

I love the fact that Prague is so compact and easy to navigate. Unlike many large European cities you will get to tick the main tourist attractions off your list, and with three days to enjoy it, you should get a great feel for the city.

I found return flights departing Dublin for €81, and a two-night stay at the 5-star Grandior Hotel just €75 per person, or a three night stay from Sunday the 8th of February is just €110 per person – simply edit the dates via the link below to suit you.

3. Porto: 5-star hotel, February, 2 Nights, €158pp

Escape to Porto in 2026! This compact city is deal for a short break. I found return flights from just €57 and a two-night stay in the top-rated 5-star HF Ipanema Park is only €101 per person, making the total cost just €168 per person.

Featuring an outdoor swimming pool, this 5-star hotel offers a rooftop bar with Porto and Douro River views I stayed in Porto many years ago, you can read my handy guide here:

4. Valencia: Weekend in January, 2 Nights from €182pp

Valencia blends historic charm with a laid back coastal vibe, offering sights like the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, the gothic Valencia Cathedral, and the vibrant Central Market. You can wander the old town streets or enjoy the city’s famous paella in its birthplace.

I found great value flights from Dublin for only €85 on Saturday the 17th of January. A two-night stay at the Zenit Valencia is only €97 per person. 

Fly from Cork on the same date for only €50 per person and stay in the same hotel for 3 nights for €148 per person.

5. Malta: March, 3 Nights, €179pp

Malta

With over 300 days of sunshine each year, Malta is a popular city break destination at any time of year. Malta is a small island measuring 17 miles long and 9 miles wide, so you can many of the top attractions in a short break.

There are three UNESCO World Heritage Sites to visit, as well as the famous Blue Lagoon, and make time to get lost in the colourful old streets of Valletta.

I found great value return flights on the 8th or 9th of March from Dublin with Ryanair. There are also flights with Aer Lingus from Dublin. Flights from Shannon commence at the end of March with Ryanair.

A three-night stay at the 4 Star Solana Hotel & Spa is just €179 per person including flights.

6. Budapest: February, 2 Nights from €145pp

Why not try a short break in Budapest? I found flights from Dublin in February for just €62, departing early morning and returning in the evening, giving you three days to explore this big city. A two-night stay at the Alta Moda Fashion Hotel is only €88 per person!

Alternatively fly from Shannon for €56 on the 26th of January for two nights and stay at the same hotel for only €88 per person!

7. Seville: January, 2 Nights, €186pp

The capital of Andalucia is having a moment and there are year round flights from both Dublin and Cork airports. As well as mouthwatering tapas and wonderful wine, you can expect to a medieval centre that is packed with an eclectic mix of architecture, where many palaces have been converted to luxury hotels.

The world’s largest Gothic cathedral is in Seville, which houses Christopher Columbus’ tomb, and there are many more sights to see here. 

I found flights to Seville from €74 return from Dublin. A two-night mid week stay at the super Hotel Fernando III is only €112 per person. This is rated as Excellent on TripAdvisor and is ideally located to explore this great city.

8. Nice: March, 2 Nights, €177pp

The South of France is always a good idea and with return flights from just €76, what a nice way to start the 2026 Spring season!

I found return flights from Dublin on the 22nd of March returning on the 24th for only €76 plus a two-night stay at the 4-star Nice Pam Hotel is only €101 per person.

9. Gdansk: Weekend stay in February, 2 Nights, €160pp

Is Vienna on your bucket list? Well it should be! I found return flights with Ryanair for €54 in February, departing early morning and returning in the evening, giving you three days to explore this great city.

11. Marrakesh: January, 3 Nights, €199pp

With Ryanair and Aer Lingus both flying three times weekly from Dublin to Marrakech, there has never been a better time to visit Morocco’s medieval city.

The walled medieval Medina is the heart of this city. Go bargain hunting in the souqs and spend some time on the main square, Jemâa El-Fna, and if you want to complete the bucket list experience, book a hot-air balloon ride over the Atlas Mountains.

I found return flights with Ryanair from Dublin to Marrakesh from €63 on the 27th of January! A three-night stay in the popular Riad Bianca is only €136 per person! Superbly located a 10-minute walk from Jamaâ El Fna Square, it boasts a rooftop terrace and a complimentary breakfast each morning.

12. Lisbon: February, 2 Nights, €196pp

Lisbon is one Europe’s top city break destinations, and after my recent visit I now know why! It has a beautiful old town, and pastel-coloured buildings with terracotta rooftops as far as the eye can see.

Lisbon is very easy to navigate too, but if you don’t fancy walking it, there are delightful old trams and tuktuks available to help you explore this great city.

I found return flights for just €46 from Dublin and a great rate in one of Lisbon’s top rated 4 Star hotels, Figueira by The Beautique Hotels for just €150 per person including breakfast! 13. Malaga City: February, 2 Nights, €199pp

Malaga is a super choice for a Winter break, and despite being the sixth largest city in Spain, Malaga feels more like a vibrant town. Its colourful streets are a delight to explore and it is packed with history and culture, as well as tasty tapas bars.

 

Many of the top things to do in Malaga are located close together so you can see most of the highlights in a few days. I found return flights for just €59 in February from Dublin, €57 from Cork and €74 from Knock.

14. Tallinn: Long Weekend in January, 3 Nights, €177pp

The seaside city of Tallinn is has a medieval town that looks straight out of a fairy tale. I visited recently and loved its beautiful architecture and lively nightlife.

It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe. The airport is located just 10 minutes taxi ride from the city and costs just €10!  It is very compact so you can see most of the attractions in this short break and you can even avail of free 2 hour walking tours every day. 

Top Tip: Don’t miss its show-stopping cathedral and pre book a meal at Restaurant Rataskaevu, it is superb!

 

I found return flights for just €74 on the 24th January and a three-night stay at the Rixwell Collection Savoy Boutique Hotel is only €103 per person!

15. Krakow: February, 3 Nights from €163pp

Krakow is home to Europe’s largest market square. It’s stunning architecture combined with vibrant nightlife make it an ideal choice for a city break.

The old town is a pleasure to explore. Make sure to take a walking tour of the Jewish Quarter and see Oskar Schindler’s factory, you can also take a trip to nearby Auschwitz if you are feeling up to it.

At night time visit basement clubs and enjoy live music, the back streets are full of them and there are some cracking restaurants too.

I found return flights for €70 from Dublin on the 2nd of February. A three-night stay in the highly rated 1891 Garni Hotel is only €129 per person! This great hotel receives great reviews on TripAdvisor and was awarded a Certificate of Excellence.

I found great value flights from Dublin for €65 on the 14th of January departing early morning and returning late evening, giving you three full days to enjoy Madrid.
